Bloomberg Is Endorsed by Independence Party
New York Times
Bloomberg for a third term after he vowed in private and public remarks delivered just before the vote to try to establish nonpartisan elections in the city. Bloomberg — a Democrat-turned-Republican who dropped all party affiliations two years ago — would be the first independent candidate elected to lead the city. “I have been a Democrat I have been a Republican and I really respect both parties” Mr. Bloomberg said in his public remarks before meeting with party leaders. “But I’ve never believed that any party has a monopoly on truth or good ideas. ”The Independence Party’s selection came within 24 hours of another critical endorsement: n Saturday Mr.

The Republican Party: Lost In The Wilderness

Matt Barber on Apr 5 2009 – 1:00:47 AM After Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt they rebelled against God and were made to wander aimlessly in the desert for 40 years on a needlessly roundabout journey to the Promised Land. God kept the coveted prize out of reach until that rebellious generation passed. Today we find an improvident Republican Party lost in the political wilderness. As the GP seeks to find its own Promised Land ? a return to majority leadership ? it has to its own detriment rebelled against the core conservative principles solemnized within its own party platform. In a ?big tent? effort to be all things to all people the GP ? charmed by a gaggle of ?moderate? RINs (Republicans in name only) ? has taken a hard left hustling along in exactly the wrong direction. As a result that elusive Promised Land shrinks in the rearview mirror with every ?centrist? capitulation. Much of the party leadership has become emotionally addicted to the placebo of political pragmatism swallowing the media-driven misconception that to voters ideological ?moderation? is somehow the political gold standard.

"n any given day Burns can also be stunned by the unbalanced likes of a Bill ‘Reilly — a "goon" David Letterman unjokingly called him to his face — or a Sean Hannity or Mark Levin. And let’s not forget that the right’s preferred 2012 presidential candidate is a certifiable whackjob who as a vice-presidential candidate in 2008 repeatedly labeled the next president the "pal" of a terrorist. This — all the above — indeed has become the face of the Republican Party by default because so few internally are pushing back. Even the dramatically diminished corps of Beltway Republican pols trembles at the power of these malignant voices — the base is listening and keeping tabs. The right’s political deterioration has become so unmanageable that even ultraconservatives such as David Frum have morphed by comparison into exceedingly nervous moderates. Horowitz is far from alone. Frum’s immediate diagnoses are spot on yet his prognoses I would argue lie ambiguously in denial.

” So the consistent theme to me would be spending. The inconsistency would be a bit of a more contrite heart in international affairs that I’ve seen domestically. WALLACE: Let me get to the subject that we actually invited you both here for and that’s to talk about the future of the Republican Party and how you rebrand yourself. Gingrich you said the other day that you see the real possibility that some conservatives will split off from the GP and form a third party by 2012. I know that nobody would ever accuse you of this but are you just being provocative? GINGRICH: No I’m trying to say very clearly particularly to those Republicans who continue to insist for example on earmarks continue to insist that they like big spending continue to insist that they don’t have to pay any attention to the great vast majority of Republicans that people are not trapped into a — into a system. I think that where Congressman John Boehner and his team with Eric Cantor and others have done is very helpful.
