The Party With the Race Problem
Washington Post – Jun 25, 2008
The Democratic Party is the party with a problematic history on race. And in case anyone forgot it was the Republican Party that freed the slaves. LAWRENCE INKBeltsvilleRelated.

It’s good to know there are still thinking Republicans out there. The Republican party hasn’t been conservative since Reagan which I thought would have been a good thing if not for the direction they’ve headed. If they went more toward the center I would have preferred they do it on social issues rather than trying to impose their "morality" on the general population. Would that these morals be more based on the teachings of Jesus rather than cherry-picked ld Testament strictures. I join the chorus that you can be a powerful voice for your beliefs and welcome your opinions. This society needs healthy debate and it’s refreshing that some reasoning individuals are carrying the conversation forward amidst all the hype… Then it will just be a matter of sitting back and watching the pendulum swing. If there is one thing that matters to politicians it is winning. I’ll do my part to make sure that the Republican party understands that if they want to do that they better go back to their roots. It might be easy to get depressed over the idea but not to worry. We have been here before many times and America always swings back to the founding principles of the Republic. I’m confident we will do so again.
I’m for McCain but not the GP
USA Today – Jun 25, 2008
By Ralph PetersI support John McCain for president. But that doesn’t mean I support the Republican Party. Had the GP nominated anyone else this year I’d be struggling to rationalize a vote for the Democrats in November. I back McCain because we need integrity experience and courage in our next president. I view the Democrats’ candidate Barack bama as a Ferrari without an engine wonderfully shiny but with nothing under the hood. Even so like many Americans I’m disgusted with both political parties.
Simpleton politics: Good vs. Evil
Houston Chronicle – Jun 25, 2008
Choose between saving the presidency and facing a long cold winter or saving congressional seats and suffer a couple of light freezes and rebound. CV believes that the Republican Party must essentially get back to its roots and stop playing to the center. What I believe is that until we see true intellectual ideas coming from Republicans that no shift will be possible whatever. Republicans can gain back the center they can regain people like me and… Mark my words this will mean the difference right here. And they must embrace true fiscal conservatism in a way we can believe in. Those issues right there would put the Republican Party on track for a resurgence. But substantive policy discussion is going to be what gets that job done. The Republican Party and its adherents are going to have to change. They are going to have to work for it. They are going to have to research to elevate the discussion and to strive for it.
James L. Taylor: Why Michelle bama is “Fair Game”
NPR – Jun 25, 2008
And while I would not argue that he should ignore these states I worry that the agenda he would use to attract conservative voters could weaken the force of change. To begin with worry about the blue collar vote is based on the perception of their strength as a part of the Democratic base. But this year will probably not reflect the 1980s when they went over to the Republican party en masse or in 1992 when they were a large part of the Ross Perot vote. This year blue collar whites are hurting more than any other time in recent memory and more than any other part of the political demographic with: significant job losses high prices for everything from milk to gas the loss of their homes and disaffection with the war policies of the Bush administration. They have been let down by Republicans on both domestic and foreign policy and although about 20 percent in recent polls have said they would vote McCain if bama were the choice in the fall the issue is what would happen to the rest. I think this year the blue collar constituency is likely to split. ne group could go with McCain; another group may buy in to bama’s promise of change to an agenda that favors lower income citizens; and still another group frustrated by the choices is likely to stay home.
