utside groups compete for political ad time
FXNews – Apr 29, 2008
Partisan groups and the political parties are pushing their way onto the airwaves often with negative ads that are adding an even more quarrelsome tone to an already bruising presidential campaign. In Louisiana Mississippi and Indiana ads on behalf of Republican congressional candidates label Democrat bama too liberal. ne ad by the North Carolina Republican Party cites bama’s ties to his controversial former pastor the Rev. n cable nationally the Democratic National Committee portrays Republican John McCain as a continuation of President Bush’s Iraq and economic policies. In Indiana which holds a key primary on May 6 a group mostly financed by the Clinton-backing American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees is running an ad critical of bama’s economic plan. The ads reflect the unusual circumstances of this presidential race with the Republican nomination all but settled and Democrats still contesting theirs.
McCain asks NC GP not to run ad
Seattle Times – Apr 29, 2008
I take them at their word and I assume that if John McCain thinks that it’s an inappropriate ad that he can get them to pull it down since he’s their nominee and standard-bearer. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean piled on saying McCain should call the party chairwoman personally. “If John McCain means what he says he should call the North Carolina Republican Party chairwoman and tell her not to run this ad” Dean said. “Sending an e-mail and turning a blind eye as the state party ignores him is not leadership.
Democratic party must win black vote or it’ll lose big
kentucky.com – Apr 29, 2008
In the nearly five decades since the black voting block is like no other in America not women and not Latinos. Bill Clinton carried 84 percent of the black vote in 1996 John Kerry won 88 percent in 2004 and Al Gore had 90 percent in 2000. What happened mid-century to change a majority of black voters into Democrats? The Republican Party began to diss black people. Many Southern segregationists who were Democrats hopped over the fence to the Republican side taking their racist views with them and tainting what had been a good relationship. Then Republican candidates started using black people as bogeymen in campaigns further shutting off any possible re-entry. Republicans thought they could win without the black vote. And sometimes they did.
THE SITUATIN RM

BEGALA: Well like everybody in the media I probably get 50 e- mails from Hillary’s campaign and from bama’s campaign and I haven’t seen any sign that Hillary Clinton’s campaign is using this at all. I think that’s an unfair attack. Now the Republican Party is using it. They have already run ads in North Carolina that were divisive and John McCain didn’t even have the strength to get them to pull it down. Now he said they should pull it down but even the Republican Party is not listening to the putative Republican Party’s nominee. So I think it’s actually the Republican Party that has to — BLITZER: Hold on guys. BEGALA: Why don’t you come back to John Hagee? I want to know from Leslie if she approves of John McCain’s political relationship with Pastor John Hagee a man who has said the most hateful things imaginable about the Catholic Church… Now the Republican Party is using it. Parties hope to woo back voters
Leader Times – Apr 29, 2008
Armstrong County Republican Party chairman Mike Baker and Democratic Party chairman Dick Shreckengost both said their respective parties plan to contact voters who switched affiliations. About 440 already-registered voters in the county changed their party affiliation before last week’s primary. Both men said they hoped to either retain the new voters or get those back who changed. Shreckengost described the increase in the Democratic Party as the result of possibly a “spur-of-the-moment” decision by voters who wanted to choose between Democratic presidential candidates Sen. Barack bama and Sen… According to the state election bureau’s division of elections and precinct data 344 of already registered voters changed their party to Democrat for the primary election. Ninety-five of already registered voters changed their party affiliation to Republican. The data did not show what party — Democrat Republican or other — the voters belonged to before switching. Baker said he expected many Republicans who changed parties to return to the ticket prior to November’s election. Baker said between the November 2007 election and now the Republican Party lost about 1 percent of its voters which could be largely due to deaths and former residents. Wendy Buzard county director of elections said some voters who came to the office to change their party affiliation said they wanted to vote for bama or Clinton to keep the other candidate out of office. Clinton beat bama in Armstrong County by more than 4000 votes last week.
