Which hopeful is the face of the new GP?
USA Today – Jan 23, 2008
A generation ago Ronald Reagan united economic conservatives social conservatives and national security hawks in a political coalition that on Election Day will have held the White House for 20 of the past 28 years. But the alliance he forged is fracturing and the 2008 contest is all about what could succeed it. Though the Republican Party has been in remarkable harmony for three decades “it’s quite clear that we’ve come to the end of both the Reagan and George W. Bush eras and now we’re at the beginning of a new era” says Newt Gingrich an architect of the 1994 GP takeover of Congress and author of a new book called Real ChangeFor all the fealty the Republican candidates have pledged to Reagan in this race the former House speaker says anyone campaigning on a promise to replicate the Gipper “would have been like Reagan running in 1980 saying ‘We need Ike. ‘ “There’s no shortage of advice from Gingrich and others about what should come next. Mickey Edwards a former Republican congressional leader who now teaches at Princeton has a book coming out called Reclaiming Conservatism. Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist’s forthcoming Leave Us Alone outlines his vision of a limited-government alliance.

Bond spokesman Shana Marchio declined to comment on what role if any Bond might play. The Missouri Democratic Party’s official comment late Tuesday was that Nixon was in a strong position. "The Republican Party is in disarray right now" said Democratic Party spokesman Jack Cardetti. But some Democratic activists were privately wary saying that some of the Republican contenders are popular among Missouri voters with savvy political skills and could pose serious problems for Nixon. The attorney general so far has built his campaign around Blunt’s weaknesses. Many Democrats have been confident about unseating Blunt who was trailing Nixon by 9 percentage points in a Post-Dispatch poll in November. With the exception of Jetton none of the potential replacements had a hand in the decision by the Legislature and Blunt in 2005 to cut 100000 people off the state’s Medicaid rolls.

Who is he? Well he was the former Democratic chairman here in South Carolina during the `90s much of Clinton’s tenure as president in the White House. Harpootlian is recently been telling reporters that Clinton’s activism in this campaign is divisive and reminiscent he said of former South Carolina Republican Party Chairman and National Republican Party Chairman Lee Atwater. Clinton angrily reacted to that. Let’s take a quick listen. (BEGIN VIDE CLIP) BILL CLINTN FRMER PRESIDENT F THE UNITED STATES: I never uttered a word of public complaint when Mr. bama said Hillary was not truthful had no character was poll-driven when he had more pollsters than she did.

Brian Melendez and Ron Carey: Above all participate
Minneapolis Star-Tribune – Minneapolis Star Tribune – Jan 23, 2008
does not owe Muslims an apology As the chairs of the Minnesota DFL Party and the Republican Party of Minnesota we often disagree. But we agree strongly on one thing: We want you to attend your precinct caucus on Tuesday Feb. Precinct caucuses are a great Minnesota tradition and they are a way that you can make change in your community from the ground up. Precinct caucuses are neighborhood meetings where like-minded people concerned about our country’s direction get together to start making plans to actually do something about it… Help us keep Minnesota strong and make the change that you want to see by attending the precinct caucus of your choice. Brian Melendez is chairman of the Minnesota DFL Party. Ron Carey is chairman of the Republican Party of Minnesota.
