n the other hand Paul supported the war in Afghanistan so he can probably persuade voters that his opposition to the Iraq war is a matter of principle and practicality. I feel that if Paul were nominated and had the support of the Republican Party he would have a better chance of winning the general election than any other current Republican candidate because the other half of the electorate– that is Democrats– probably won’t tolerate any Republican who wants to continue the Iraq war. But Paul doesn’t have the support of the Republican Party. In fact it looks like they’d rather ignore him entirely. Paul’s unexpectedly strong showing in the first Republican debate apparently made Party leaders uncomfortable; there was talk of banning him from future debates. Fortunately they backed down and Paul went on to draw a lot of attention in the next two debates. It’s a little surprising that the oldest Republican in the race today is getting the most support of any candidate on the Internet.

4pt; padding-left: 5. The difference in votes between bama's 140 and Edwards 115 is only 25 while uncommitted votes represent a total of 35 votes. What I find interesting about the latest poll is the number of actual participants polled. The ctober 1-3 2007 poll consisted of 804 participants – 399 from the Democratic Party and 405 from the Republican Party while the prior poll completed on May 12-16 2007 consisted of 801 participants – 400 from the Democratic Party and 401 from the Republican Party. These polls may influence some voters in our country but all they do is leave me with unanswered questions.

I should add I do not want to banish the word "God" from the public square. But I do want that invocation to be as thin and as empty and as formal as the Founders intended. The current Republican party has reinvented itself as a force on opposite grounds. The party of Huckabee and Romney the party of Hewitt and Dobson the party of Ponnuru and Neuhaus is emphatically not a secular party. And that is why part of me I confess wants Huckabee to win. So the GP can lose – as spectacularly and humiliatingly as possible.
Reaction to the Morrison resignation
Kansas City Star – Dec 14, 2007
?The focus is now on Governor Sebelius to see what she does with the situation. She?s got some damage to repair. ? Christian Morgan executive director of the Kansas Republican Party. ?I?ve had cases in courts all over the United States and in the courtroom Paul Morrison was as good as they get. ?When I tried a case with Paul I never had to worry about whether I had the complete file or whether he was trying to pull anything on me. I always knew we were both there trying to find the truth of what happened. ? Defense attorney Carl Cornwell of lathe.

It’s another piece of showmanship intended to show that this scion of a wealthy Eastern family and graduate of Harvard and Yale is really a plainspoken cowboy who just loves clearing brush in Texas. As the conservative party that has led the attack on working-class living standards over the last generation the Republicans have most invested in this pandering to religion. The mass component of the modern Republican Party was rebuilt in the 1960s and 1970s through an appeal to segments of the population that rejected the social changes of the 1960s. When one boils down the various “culture war” issues that the Republicans have used through the years they come down to a rejection of the gains of the 1960s social movements. pposition to abortion is one aspect of a rejection of the gains of the women’s movement. pposition to affirmative action is another way to oppose the gains of the civil rights movement without appearing to defend Jim Crow segregation.
